Restoran Padang: Closed

(closed as of January 2014?)
Restoran Padang
43, Jalan Dang Wangi
50100 Kuala Lumpur
+60326924950
(Coordinates: 3° 9' 21.75", 101° 42' 1.25")

This is another been-here-so-often-its-taken-for-granted kind of restaurant. A hop, skip and jump away from our apartment, this restaurant ranks second in our list of favourite nasi padang restaurants (number one is still at Capital Cafe).

along Jalan Dang Wangi

right across Wilayah Complex

This is a family business run by three brothers; we’ve been coming here well before their late father passed away. Due to its close proximity to my office I used to frequent its sister shop managed by one of the brothers in Pertama Complex until it closed down a few years ago.

been around quite a while

Cat ordering the catfish (pun intended)

me waiting my turn

aah, torpedo scad (seriously!)

The padang fried chicken is Brendan’s firm favourite while Cat usually has the fried ikan keli (which strangely enough, is catfish). I am almost always here for their ikan cencaru cooked in chili gravy.

the mighty torpedo scad!

Cat and her catfish  J

Brendan should run his own poultry farm

poor imitation of a catfish?

bon appetit J

iced nescafe + iced lemon tea

By the way, I learnt something new today. The ikan cencaru or torpedo scad (megalaspis cordyla) is a species of moderately large marine fish classified in the jack and horse mackerel family. I kid you not!

  1. Hi Harry, do you by any chance know where they are today? I still cant replicate/find the taste of the fried chicken (with kerisik?) I used to go there back in 2003-2007. Was in secondary school. Been craving ever since. Would love to hear back from you

    1. yeah, I know what you mean. I haven't had much luck tracking down the brothers. They used to also run a small cafeteria in Pertama Complex as well, but that too closed down after their father passed away.

I'll be sure to update this post if there are any positive developments!
