Yesterday we were at Taste of Asia, today its Taste of
Middle East. We said that our taste buds have taken a definite swing in favour
of Northeast Asian cuisines these days. Well, today we decided to add variety
to our dining experience.

marvellous Yemeni cuisine |
Courtesy of a meal set voucher purchased at mydeal.com for
RM32 (worth RM63), we were acquainted with Yemeni cuisine. The set included
(hold your breath!): -
- Mandi (also known as Haneeth) chicken and lamb with rice, a traditional Yemeni dish usually made from basmati rice, meat (lamb or chicken), and a mixture of spices;
- Yemeni salad made up of tomatoes, garlic, different seeds, cucumbers, chili peppers, mushrooms, olives and onions, mixed with olive oil;
- Hummus, a Middle Eastern and Arabic food dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic;
- Malooga, a very large Yemeni flatbread;
- Fried lamb strips; and
- A bowl of vegetable soup for each of us.

The set did not include beverages, and we were encouraged to
try Vimto, a softdrink tonic popular with the Yemeni people.
(very sweet!) Vimto |
We were there pretty early (6:30PM) but after the better
part of an hour we were still going hard at it. What looked like small portions
turned out to be pretty generous by the time we were done eating.

Looks like Northeast Asian cuisine has a new
contender for a spot in our weekend dining schedule!
