D'Coconut Cafe

Jalan Tengku Ampuan Bariah
Kampung Telaga Batin
21300 Kuala Terengganu
(Coordinates: E103° 6' 50.4" N5° 23' 9.6")

A few nights ago we were in Tanjung enjoying our barbequed seafood platter. If you’ve noticed a theme developing you would not be far wrong. Subconsciously when in Kuala Terengganu we tend to gravitate toward dishes based on the bounties from the sea. Very rarely will you see us patronize a restaurant looking to have say, mutton?

In keeping with the theme, we paid this part of Kuala Terengganu a visit which is in close proximity with the Sultan Mahmud Airport, in fact where we sat we could see the end of the runway.

it's the yellow shop

There are a large collection of Ikan Celup Tepung (ICT, which means fish that is dipped in flour or batter) establishments in this area. Seeing as it was the weekend, traffic was quite bad and we eventually settled on D’Coconut Cafe where parking could be found.

All manner of seafood are dipped in their special batter before being deep fried, and in the case of D’Coconut even Oyster mushrooms (whom they mistakenly think are categorized as seafood?) are given a go. We ordered two Rastrelliger Mackerels, one plate of Squid and a plate of Oyster mushrooms all done in the ICT way. We added twenty sticks of Keropok Lekor (fish sausage?) while Brendan ordered a bowl of Tom Yam Maggi Mee (instant noodles) for good measure. They also serve interesting beverages and Cat was keen to try the Coconut Shake; Brendan had the Air Batu Campur (Ice Shavings in various syrups) while I had the Air Batu Jagung (Ice Shavings in corn syrup)

let's dig in!
The damage? Including the exotic beverages the total was a reasonable RM32, well within the dominion of the everyday food for the every person. Would we come back again? Cat was particularly impressed with the batter used, which in her opinion was better than the one we had a few nights ago in Tanjung, so the answer would be a big affirmative.
