We left Kuala Terengganu in the wee hours
of the morning and reached Kemaman by 8:30AM, thinking that we’d stop over (as
we always do) at Hai Peng Kopitiam. But horror of horrors, it was closed.
Driving further down the coast we came to
the realisation that local folks here do not eat out for breakfast. It was some
time later at Cherating’s sleepy village that we found a shop serving
any kind of breakfast.
double AA as in bateries? hmm... |
Located beside a Petronas petrol station
and right before the junction to The Legend Resort Cherating, this restaurant
served 1Nasi Lemak Ikan Aye for breakfast. I duly obliged and
ordered a plate while Brendan and Cat opted for 2Roti Canai.
1fragrant
rice cooked in coconut milk and Pandan leaves served with tuna
2 a type
of Indian-influenced flatbread, known as roti prata in Southern Malaysia and
Singapore, and is similar to the Indian Kerala porotta. Circular and flat, the dough is either
twirled until it becomes a very thin sheet and then folded into a circular
shape or to spread out the dough as thinly as possible before being folded and
being grilled with oil.

here's hoping that Double AA will 'energize' us... hehehe! |
The verdict? The Nasi Lemak Ikan Aye here
is unique in that the fish is boiled (or broiled?) separately and does not form
part of the 3Sambal dish. All in all it was an adequate breakfast
and at RM10.50 (which also included a glass of Nescafe for moi and Iced Milo
for Brendan and Cat) we had no cause for complaints.
