Red Door Restaurant

F27, Jalan Metro Prima
Metro Prima
52100 Kuala Lumpur
Coordinates: 3.213459, 101.639769

We stumbled on this restaurant online, and thought we’d give it a try given Cat’s particular craving for 1Nasi Kerabu.

1blue-coloured rice (a result of cooking with butterfly-pea flowers) usually eaten with fish crackers, pickles and other salads

Located on the first floor of a shopping mall, we were taken in by their décor and concept. We immediately felt at home and proceeded to order.

Located on the first floor of a shopping mall, we were taken in by their décor and concept. We immediately felt at home and proceeded to order. Cat ordered the (what else?) Nasi Kerabu with a side dish of 2Song Tam; Brendan tried the Hainanese Chicken Chop while I sampled their 3Char Kueh Teow for a change.

2essentially a Siamese green papaya salad usually prepared with juices from crushed garlic, long beans, tomatoes and chillies, sugar, lime juice & fish sauce
3flat rice noodles stir-fried over very high heat with light and dark soy sauce, chili, a small quantity of belachan, whole prawns, de-shelled cockles, bean sprouts, chopped Chinese chives and egg

mediocre fare

sour, and not much else

passable

the saving grace?

sour juice

and an orange juice

The verdict? While the décor, furniture, fittings and overall ambiance was great, the dishes served were quite unremarkable and in fact mediocre. And with the total cost of our meal exceeding RM50 Red Door does not qualify to be considered serving the everyday food for the everyday man.
