Set against the fresh blue waters of the
Arabian Gulf,
JBR Beach does embody urban living at its sunny best. With the latest
entertainment, all kinds of delicious cuisine, all manner of watersports and
even a six hundred metre running track a visit to JBR Beach can take you a
whole day.
The waters are fairly calm here and popular
with bathers, and it is by far one of the most fun, family friendly beaches that
we’ve ever been to. The skyscrapers nearby provide a spectacular backdrop too. The
number of bikini-clad sun bathers almost made us forget that we were in a Middle
Eastern country, to be honest.

Peering into the distance we caught a glimpse
of new development in an area called the Blue Water Islands. Apparently it’s a
man-made mixed use island located off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence.
There are even plans to build a pedestrian bridge that will link the island to
the JBR beachfront.

Walking along the beach we found the white
sands simply dazzling, and Cat remarked that she should have brought her
sunglasses along. We then came upon some stalls selling t-shirts and other souvenirs.

The highlight of our walk was experiencing dondurma,
a Turkish ice cream sold from a street vendor's cart. During this occasion, as
is always the case the vendor would tease the customer by serving the ice cream
cone on a stick, and then taking away the dondurma with the stick by rotating
it around, before finally giving it to the customer. Cat shrieked and squealed
with surprise and delight each time the vendor performed his trick.

It was high noon and the sun was right
above our heads so we decided to make our way back to the comforts of
Nuran.
