UAE 2016 Day 05: Lehbab Desert

Lehbab (or Lahbab) is a village in the Emirate of Dubai about 50 km south of Dubai city. It is situated on the highway between Dubai and the border of the Emirate of Sharjah. Lehbab is also known for its stunning desert characterised by wide expanses of sands and captivating dunes.

We arrived at the appointed checkpoint and waited for other SUVs to join us in a convoy across the red dunes.

We will let the photos do the talking for us from this point on:

we've arrived

the first SUV going in

disappearing into the horizon

while another arrived

great wilderness

our very first time

some signs of civilisation to the right

walking up a small dune

another SUV arriving

almost there

some growth and vegetation

more SUVs joining us

stuck in the sand

joyfully so, though

red, red sand dunes as far as the eye can see

Sern getting in on the action

snapping away

Brendan has always loved sand

growing up in our hometown

he'd sit by the beach all day playing with sand

so this must have been a real treat (and throwback)

capturing the moment

time to go!

hahaha, snapping each other

my hand blending into the landscape

red, red sand

Brendan can't get enough of it

a quiet beauty

hand print in the sand

our intrepid photographer

the convoy grows

its getting busy

Sern sneaking up on a desert animal

hiding in the shade

Brendan's handwork

desert dabbing!

and the convoy grows even more

the Emirati flag yonder in the distance

A stark yet stunning wilderness marked by the occasion shrub or bush. Plain yet appealing, the vast expanse of red dune as far as the eye can see holds a certain romantic quality, at least in the eyes of this beholder.
