Longhouse 86

86 Jalan Hang Jebat
75200 Melaka
Coordinates: 2.196673, 102.246676
(above are coordinates to Jonker 88)

We finished our meal at Famosa Chicken Rice Ball and left the place feeling pretty dejected. We trudged down Jonker Street toward Jonker 88 hoping that some excellent Melaka 1Cendol would soothe our wounded palates.

1a traditional dessert of coconut milk, jelly noodles made from rice flour with green food coloring (usually derived from the pandan leaf), shaved ice and palm sugar (in this case, gula melaka). Other ingredients such as red beans, glutinous rice, grass jelly, creamed corn, might also be included

Alas, turned out Jonker 88 was closed on Mondays but its next door neighbor was not. 88 or 86 did not matter to us so long as there was some Cendol to be had.

we came looking for Cendol

and we were not disappointed

open, welcome... indeed!

We promptly ordered three heaping bowls of Cendol and waited with glee.

Truth be told, we’ve never sampled Jonker 88 before (most times that we came by there were long queues in the blazing just to get a seat!). Longhouse 86 on the other hand, did not enjoy the same popularity which is puzzling to us, because as far as we are concerned the Cendol here was excellent. We will however, reserved our judgement until after we’re been able to sample the Cendol next door.
