PENANG Walkabout 4 (KOMTAR, Chulia Street, Pasta Path)

We're in the mood for a walkabout!

We felt invigorated after an afternoon nap and were keen to go on a walkabout. We left the hotel headed and darted into Mydin store to get some provisions. We doubled back to the hotel to keep our stuff and headed out again. We walked southeast along Jalan Hutton before walking across Jalan Penang and continued southwest until we reached the Octopus Pedestrian Crossing Bridge.

We then walked across the bridge unto KOMTAR Walk and continued southeast along Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong then turned right onto Jalan Ria. Here I paused for a while to take some photos of KOMTAR at dusk when tragedy struck! The Lumix GX85 jammed, and an error message appeared on its LCD panel asking to turn off and turn on the camera. I tried several times to no avail, even taking out the battery and memory card for several minutes.

Oh well, it looked like we would have to rely on our smartphones for photos for the rest of our trip here. Thankfully, the smartphones we had were able to take raw images that could later be edited with Adobe Photoshop, but the loss of our little Lumix GX85 (albeit temporary, we hope) really stung.

No matter, we walked on and arrived at the Maybank ATMs to replenish our Federal Reserves. We then doubled back, across the Octopus Pedestrian Crossing Bridge where we then ended up along Jalan Penang. We continued northeast for a while before walking across Jalan Penang and stopped at a vendor selling fruits.

Armed with a bagful of assorted fruits we marched on along and turned right onto Lebuh Campbell. We walked southeast for a while and came across a noodle shop, L Kitchen that alas had just closed for the night and had accepted final calls minutes earlier.

We continued southeast along Lebuh Campbell before turning left onto Jalan Pintal Tali. We then found ourselves at Chulia Street, where we walked across and headed northwest for a while. Since it was Brendan's birthday, we thought we'd give him a treat, so we briefly considered Rockafellas Kitchen & Bar.

The eerie emptiness that enveloped Rockafellas gave us doubts so we continued along Lebuh Cintra before turning right onto Kampung Malabar. We walked for a while before coming across Pasta Path which Brendan decided was as good a place as any to celebrate his birthday.

The irony was we eventually ordered everything but the pasta, and our dinner came to RM115.30 (approximately USD/EUR26). We then continued northwest along Kampung Malabar before walking across Jalan Penang and before we knew it had reached the hotel.

With that ended our walkabout, with many more to come in the coming days.

Lastly, we feel that it is our civic duty to remind everyone that while masks are now optional outdoors, it is still mandatory indoors!
