Precious Old China: Sa Cap Meh Dinner

Chinese New Year Eve!

In the Hokkien dialect today is known as Sa Cap Meh (which literally means "thirtieth night") and it refers to the eve of Chinese New Year.

Last year we had our Sa Cap Meh dinner at Kocik Heritage in Melaka, this year we will be having our dinner closer to home.

We checked into Pacific Express Hotel Central Market and planned to walk over to Old Precious China for our Sa Cap Meh dinner later in the evening. We have been to Central Market many times but did not notice this diminutive restaurant, which we found on Tripadvisor.

Its website states: "Located in Kuala Lumpur’s Central Market, Precious Old China restaurant & bar offers a quaint dining experience amidst Malaysian antiques and vintage Colonial furniture."

We made reservations for 7:00pm and purchased the RM100 cash voucher (approximately USD21/EUR20) for a 2-3 pax Nyonya Set Course through the FunNow mobile app. At the appointed hour we walked from the hotel to Central Market next door.

We entered the restaurant and was greeted no one? Everyone seemed busy so we waited quite a while we were shown to our table.

We took our time with the menu and eventually ordered:

  • Devil Curry Chicken
  • Ikan Api Api
  • Belacan Four-King Bean
  • Plain Omelette
  • a bowl of Butterfly Pea Rice
  • a pot of Jasmine Chinese Tea

Our Nyonya meal that included a service charge of 10% as well as a service tax of 6% came to RM135.50 (approximately USD28/EUR26). Since we had already purchased a RM100.00 (approximately USD21/EUR20) with the FunNow mobile app beforehand we only needed to pay the difference of RM35.50 (approximately USD8/EUR7).

We then went back up to our rooms to change into more comfortable attire before we began our night stroll. Be sure to catch our upcoming video as we take a stroll to the River of Life and beyond!
