THAMRIN City: Breathless Batik Buying Spree!

Good morning Jakarta!

We slept in a little and left the Airbnb at half past nine. We were bound for an enormous shopping mall known as Thamrin City.

Truth be told our entire trip to Jakarta was actually centred around our wish to shop for Batik at none other than Thamrin City. A 5 minute walk later and we had arrived, and after taking several thumbnail photos of the main signboard we walked up to a row of eateries.

We decided to have breakfast at Bakso Lapangan Tembak Senayan (a mouthful). After enquiring with the waiter about what was good we settled on:

  • Bakso Campur Spesial
  • Bakso Malang
  • Es Kelapa Muda
  • Es Timun Serut

Our introductory meal to this Indonesian staple food came to IRD113,000 (approximately MYR33/USD7/EUR7).

Breakfast squared away we walked into Thamrin City to begin exploring this mazy mall in earnest. After wandering around every floor we eventually found ourselves at Habibi Batik and got ourselves:

  • 2 sets of matching blouse for Cat and long sleeved shirts for Brendan and I
  • 2 blouses for Cat

that came to 8 items of clothing totaling IDR1,150,000 (approximately MYR337/USD71/EUR66).

We then got 2 pairs of long pants for Cat from a stall called Beauties that came to IDR240,000 (approximately MYR70/USD15/EUR14). We ambled on along looking for something to drink when a Batik blouse caught Cat’s eye.

Arfa Batik yielded the biggest haul of the day by far, and we walked away with:

  • 1 set of matching blouse for Ct and long sleeved shirts for Brendan and I
  • 2 sets of matching long sleeved shirts for Brendan and I
  • 2 sets of matching short sleeved shirts for Brendan and I
  • 2 long sleeved shirts for Brendan
  • 1 long sleeved shirt for me

that came to 14 items of clothing that came to IDR1,800,000 (approximately MYR528/USD112/EUR104).

From Me & Batik Collection next door Cat got 6 blouses for IDR720,000 (MYR211/USD45/EUR41).
Three hours later we emerged with a voluminous amount of clothing. Here’s a recap of our bounty:

  • 8 items of clothing from Habibi Batik
  • 2 long pants from Beauty
  • 14 items of clothing from Arfa Batik
  • 6 blouses from Me & Batik Collection

for a grand total of 30 items of clothing that came to IDR3,910,000 (MYR1,147/USD243/EUR225). What a plentiful bounty indeed.

We walked out of Thamrin City and had drinks at Kenangan Coffee before making our way back to the Airbnb next door.

Stay tuned as we head out to a very late lunch!
