AYUTTHAYA Day Trip│Ayutthaya to Bangkok • Fortune Town!

3rd Class Train!

We picked you up again after hailing a Grab car from Pa Lek Boat Noodle. Seeing as all second class train tickets back to Bangkok were sold out (for the foreseeable future?) we decided to make our way back to Bangkok by bus.

The Grab car soon picked us up and out of curiosity the diver asked us why we were headed to the Ayutthaya bus station. We explained our predicament, but the Grab driver vehemently disagreed with our plans to take the bus back.

He explained that besides taking three times longer the bus will eventually drop us off at an 'inconvenient' area of Bangkok. He then commandeered my phone and changed our destination to the Ayutthaya train station instead.

We arrived arriving back at the Ayutthaya train station at 12:25pm for an eventual fare of THB92 (approximately USD3/EUR3/MYR12), and threw in a little extra as our token of appreciation for his help and guidance.

We made our way to the ticketing counter and purchased two third class non-airconditioned tickets back to Bangkok that cost THB15 each (approximately USD0.50/EUR0.40/MYR2).

The train from Surin would be arriving at 12:40pm giving us enough time for a potty break. The train arrived as scheduled and we were soon on our way, enjoying the experience of air-condition less travel. The windswept journey took about an hour as well and we disembarked at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal station at 1:50pm.

We then made our way to the Bang Sue MRT station and got a token from the kiosk for THB37 each (approximately USD1/EUR1/MYR5) to the Phra Ram 9 station nine stops away. We disembarked then entered Fortune Town in search of a 'pancake' lens for our Sony ZVE-10II.

But first we had lunch at a fried chicken joint we've not been to in a long while: Chester's! Here we got two sets of their two piece fried chicken with fries and Coca-Cola for THB270 (approximately USD8/EUR7/MYR35).

Truth be told the Sony ZVE-10II has not seen much action lately because of its bulky xx lens that takes up too much space. With that in mind we made our way up to World Camera but they did not carry the brand of lens I was looking for. We ended up at Capa Digi Foto store and got a 'pancake' lens, but instead of the TTArtisan 25mm F2 lens I opted for a Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 instead for THB2,590 (approximately USD77/EUR70/MYR342).

We then headed up to the third floor and got a laptop sleeve for THB590 (approximately USD18/EUR16/MYR78) from a computer accessories store. All done with our errand for the day we tried to hail a Grab car but all its pick-up points were at the Central Mall across the road.

We were advised by a kind security personnel to head down to the MRT station then walk across. We followed his advice and emerged on the opposite side where we eventually hailed a Grab car for a fare of THB240 (approximately USD7/EUR7/MYR32).

We arrived at Tierra Residences at 5:00pm, knackered from the day's adventures we'll probably order take-outs tonight. Off camera in the end we took a short stroll to our favourite Pad Thai stall near the PTT station for dinner.

Stay tuned for the next video as I get another tattoo!
